DURABILITY

Capital Clock vs Knowledge Clock

Markets assume new supply appears once capital is deployed. It often does not. ForcedAlpha separates bottlenecks that resolve with capex from bottlenecks protected by tacit operator knowledge — process recipes, qualification cycles, co-development history, and floor-level judgment that no amount of funding fast-tracks.

Capital Clock
3–5 years
Equipment, permits, financing. Resolves once the money is spent.
Knowledge Clock
~10 years
Trained operators, trade secrets, process tuning. Resolves only once the people exist.

This lets the graph flag durability mispricing — where the market sees funded capacity, but the operating knowledge does not yet exist. In rare-earth separation, Lynas had already paid down years of operator learning through its Malaysia processing operation, while greenfield entrants still face the gap between a funded plant and a running one.

Soft-signal layer: informs bottleneck duration, not severity or return scoring.

THESIS ENGINE

Every thesis has a kill condition

We do not make black-box predictions. We track falsifiable claims against primary sources — and publish when we're wrong. Below is a real example: a thesis that triggered an automated challenge, underwent human review, and was upheld with documented reasoning.

The automated checker flagged a discrepancy between the Bloomberg report and the absence of a formal regulatory instrument. Human review determined the distinction between informal administrative guidance and formal regulatory action — and the thesis was upheld with documented reasoning.

KILL CONDITION
A formal regulatory reversal by Chinese authorities, or resumption of smelter byproduct acid exports at pre-halt volumes.
CASCADE MAP

One molecule. Five industries.

Sulfuric acid is an invisible chokepoint — a mandatory byproduct of hydrocarbon processing that cannot be independently scaled. When supply disrupts, five separate industries feel it.

BRANCHES THE ENGINE REJECTED
KILLED Geopolitical weapon framing
The engine initially modeled this as a strategic export weapon. Investigation found the halt is driven by collapsed smelter economics: the 2026 copper concentrate TC/RC (treatment charge / refining charge) benchmark settled at $0/tonne for the first time in recorded history. Smelters shut down because they cannot operate profitably — acid is a byproduct of a process that stopped. Not a weapon.
Kill evidence: Antofagasta public record — TC/RC benchmark at zero
KILLED Yanbu pipeline bypass
Saudi Yanbu sulfur exports route around the Strait of Hormuz. The model initially flagged this as a mitigation path. Investigation showed it cannot reach Africa or Latin America cost-effectively — geographic scope too narrow to offset the disruption at scale.
Kill evidence: Yanbu-to-Casablanca route 3x more expensive than Gulf-to-Casablanca
KILLED Causation inversion
The initial model assumed acid shortage causes smelter shutdowns. Investigation revealed the causal arrow is reversed: smelter shutdowns (from zero TC/RC profitability) reduce acid supply as a byproduct of a process that stopped. The model had cause and effect backwards. The corrected version is in the registry.
Kill evidence: TC/RC (treatment charge / refining charge) collapse precedes acid shortage in the data

DEFENSE APPLICATION

15 levels deep

Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed need to trace China-origin exposure 15 levels deep in their supply chains. NDAA Section 854 requires it by January 2027. Nobody gives them a tool that does multi-hop cascade analysis on the defense supply base.

BSc Economics — 2.1 (University of Essex, UK), MSc Finance — Merit (University of Nottingham, UK).

I spent seven years at Amazon — buying, launching new markets, scaling strategy across India, China, and Australia. First hire on a confidential program that went from 1 to 60 people. When you watch supply chains break under constraint enough times, you stop seeing companies and start seeing the physical dependencies underneath them.

Then six years building a 7-figure digital media company — remote team of 18. Learned what actually scales when you’re the one building the systems, hiring the people, and running the operation.

The whole graph — 4901 nodes, 21528 edges, 61 autonomous expansion scripts, the scoring engine, the calibration loop, the immune system — I built it solo, with Claude Code.

The graph compounds daily. Every new node creates exponentially more edges. Every edge makes the next cascade more accurate. The moat deepens with time — but so does the cost of waiting.

Two policy cliffs create hard catalysts before year-end: China’s critical minerals truce expires November 10, 2026. NDAA Section 854 takes effect January 1, 2027. Both create forced capital flows. The graph is already mapping them.
